Telling data can be input digitally throughout Polling Day, resulting in electors being marked as having voted and struck off in the Doorstep App.
Instructions for Tellers
1. Tellers can find the electoral register number on the polling card - usually in the middle
2. The polling district makes up the alphanumeric characters to the left of the dash.
3. You should select the Polling District from the first dropdown on the telling app:
4. The polling number makes up the characters to the right of the dash. Most polling numbers are between 1-3000. Polling numbers can be numerical only (888), contain a forward slash (888/8), or a full stop (888.8). Please ensure you enter the entire polling number in full including special characters.
5. When you have located the polling number, type it into the second box:
6. To log the entry, click 'Log Entry
7. You will then see the logged entry in a list below. If you have made an error, you can undo your last three entries.
8. Voters marked as voting via telling will be remove from the list of voters on the Doorstep App at login time.
Advice for Organisers
Even if you will not have full telling coverage, any telling is better than none and using this data with the App will increase the efficiency of your operation. This is especially true for telling in the morning, especially between 7am and 9am when you are unable to knock on doors. Conversely, there is less value in telling beyond 7pm as there is not much remaining time to make use of the data, and it should be all hands on deck on the doorstep.
You can also click on 'Telling' to access a data entry page where you can manually enter telling data from telling slips, by choosing the polling district and entering polling numbers.
